少林寺数百年来弘扬大业，发展武功，曾为太平盛世立下不朽功勋。清廷为打压异己，控制人民，借助少林叛徒石少锋（田俊 饰）等人围攻少林，致使少林弟子流落各地。少林大智禅师得意弟子云飞（谭道良 饰）功夫学成，奉师命下山保护反清义士并清理少林门户。云飞于路得谭小弟（成龙 饰）帮助混入石少锋所在白石镇。恰逢众义士搭救一少林子弟，不幸石少锋一伙早有准备，石之左膀右臂杜清（洪金宝 饰）将众义士杀伤无数。云飞接近杜清，假意投靠石少锋一伙，不料被石看破，身陷缧绁，谭小弟再次出面将云飞救出。原来谭小弟之兄长正是被石少锋害死，二人决计合力诛杀石，随即邀请因石少锋而失手害死自己心爱女子的剑术高手江南浪子加入己方……。The subtitle of Jean-Marie Straub and Danièle Huillet’s first feature, from 1965, “Only Violence Helps Where Violence Reigns,” suggests the fierce political program evoked by their rigorous aesthetic. The pretext of the film, set in Cologne, is Heinrich Böll’s novel “Billiards at Half Past Nine,” which they strip down to a handful of stark events and film with a confrontational angularity akin to Bartók’s music that adorns the soundtrack. The subtlest of cues accompany the story’s complex flashbacks. The middle-aged Robert Fähmel tells a young hotel bellhop of persecutions under the Third Reich| his elderly father, Heinrich, an architect famed for a local abbey, recalls the militarism of the First World War, when his wife, Johanna, incurred trouble for insulting the Kaiser. A third-generation Fähmel is considering architecture, just as the exiled brother of Robert’s late wife, returns, only to be met by their former torturer, now a West German official taking part in a celebratory parade of war veterans. Straub and Huillet make the layers of history live in the present tense, which they judge severely. The tamped-down acting and the spare, tense visual rhetoric suggest a state of moral crisis as well as the response—as much in style as in substance—that it demands.。
