鞍钢一个普通养路工郭明义，从部队到地方，从工厂到家庭，十六年来只图奉献，不求索取，让人从不理解到理解，由观望到积极参与，以实际行动学雷锋做雷锋的故事。剧中以郭明义捐款助学、帮助孤寡老人、五十六张“精神存折”、爱岗敬业的养路工、快乐的宣传干事、口齿伶俐的英文翻译、恬淡的家庭等一系列故事为主线，表现了郭明义的平凡生活、崇高境界，是当今一个真实的活在我们身边的新世纪的雷锋。。The film was written and directed by Stuart Urban, and commissioned to mark the tenth anniversary of the Falklands War. The film was closely based on the historical record, and all of the major incidents portrayed were drawn from contemporary accounts by those who took part. Filming took place on the Falkland Islands and at Ealing Studios. Urban is a fluent Spanish-speaker, and plays an uncredited role as the Argentine radio operator.。
